Mesotherapy & Lipodissolve are terms used interchangeably. At Image 4 Life we use the term 'Lipodissolve' to describe the injections that dissolve fat and reduce cellulite; the term Mesotherapy describes the injection technique itself. 'Mesolift' refers to the use of Mesotherapy injection technique used to 'lift' skin and produce collagen.

What Is Lipodissolve / Mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy is the practice of using microinjections of conventional or homeopathic medication and/or vitamins into the mesoderm or middle layer of skin to deliver healing or corrective treatment to a specific area of the body. Mesotherapy has been touted as the latest breakthrough in aesthetic medicine for body sculpting, cellulite reduction and skin rejuvenation. Mesotherapy is also used in Pain Management, Sports Medicine, Sports Injuries and Bone Calcifications.

Where Does Mesotherapy come from? Is it New?

Mesotherapy is a technique invented in 1952 by Dr. Michel Pistor to deliver medications just below the skin surface. While pills expose the entire body to chemical side effects, Mesotherapy is injected only where it is needed. Over the past 50 years, more than 15,000 physicians world-wide have used Mesotherapy for many uses including the treatment of acute and chronic musculoskeletal and rheumatological conditions, as well as sports injuries.

In 1987, the French Academy of Medicine recognized Mesotherapy as an inherent part of traditional medicine. The International Society of Mesotherapy encompasses 14 countries throughout Europe and South America. Today, Mesotherapy is used all over the world, including the USA, as a safe and effective alternative to surgery in the practice of Cosmetic & Aesthetic Medicine.

Does Mesotherapy replace Liposuction?

In many cases Mesotherapy offers an alternative to even the safest form of liposuction, tumescent liposuction, (see table below). Tumescent liposuction has been recognized world wide as the technique permitting the greatest safety, the most rapid recovery, the least pain and the best aesthetic results.

While tumescent liposuction offers superior safety and result it's important to remember tumescent liposuction can only be handled by the hands of an expert surgeon.

Mesotherapy is a non-invasive alternative supported by a 1994-95 study on "topical fat reduction" by UCLA researchers. This study concluded women who had Mesotherapy injections lost weight even without diet or exercise. About 100 people a year die because of liposuction, Mesotherapy has no deaths, stokes or heart attacks. A patient's major concern with Mesotherapy is simple bruising and liver toxicity. Since at 'Natural Medicine & Pain Center, P.A.' we only use natural medicines, the liver toxicity is not an issue.

Who Is Suitable for Lipodissolve/Mesotherapy?

Generally, most healthy adults 18 to 80 may have mesotherapy for body sculpting and weight loss, cellulite treatment, and "mesolift" skin rejuvenation.

Mesotherapy can only be administered under the guidance of a doctor. Please be sure to mention if any of the following conditions is applicable to you do your physician can assess whether treatment is appropriate: If you are pregnant, you are taking blood thinners, you are an insulin dependent diabetic, if you have cancer, if you have AIDS, you have a coronary artery heart disease or heart dysfunction, if you have arrhythmias or irregular heart rhythm, you have a history of blood clots or strokes or if you have immune-compromised and/ or are organ transplant recipients.

What ingredients will be injected into my body?

Mesotherapy injections generally are a solution of various vitamins, minerals, enzymes, plant extracts, anesthetics, medications and amino acids. The ingredients in the solution depend on your individual treatment needs and the desired effect you want to achieve. At Image 4 Life we utilize an advanced combination of natural and homeopathic substances for optimal results.

How many treatments are required before the results are visible?

A treatment cycle could require as few as 4 and as many as 12 treatments or more depending on the size of the area being treated and the results desired.

How fast will the patient see results?

The timing on when someone will see results depends on the area treated and the extent of the problem. Fat pads of the eye will usually show visible improvement after the first treatment. Larger areas with cellulite and fat should show improvement after the first few treatments.

Will the results last?

Mesotherapy for the treatment of cellulite or targeted body sculpting and spot fat reduction, including weight loss are effective treatments and will last. Maintaining the weight loss and optimal sculpting result requires consistent exercise (with cardio and light resistance training) and consistent food management discipline (emphasis on lean protein and low GI carbohydrates). Patients generally will elect to have "touch up" treatments every 6 - 12 months.

How long is the "down time" and recovery time?

There is no down time or recovery time for this procedure. The patient will be back to regular activities immediately, even straight back to work. Hot showers should be avoided for 8 hours. If treatments were performed on the face, avoid makeup for at least 4 hours.

Are the treatments painful?

The majority of patients experience minimal discomfort. For those who have discomfort, a topical anesthetic cream or a regular ice-pack can be utilized 30 minutes prior to the procedure. Ice can also be applied after the procedure if necessary.

What are the side effects and risks of Lipodissolve / Mesotherapy?

Possible side effects are generally mild and may include a short period of burning or itching, as well as temporary soreness which can last from a few minutes to as much as two days. Temporary bruising is common yet most bruises fade within one week and certainly by two weeks they should be completely gone. Potential but rare side effects can include: Flushing, Vagal response, Allergies & Nausea.
